Robustness Testing to Proactively Remove Security Flaws with a Cisco Case Study

Presented by:
Ari Takanen, Founder & CEO Codenomicon Ltd.
Damir Rajnovic, Cisco Systems Inc.

Abstract

With security being so sharply focused now in business operations, it is imperative that developers find the vulnerabilities before their products become accessible to the world at large. Regimented testing is a proven method to shake out reliability and security issues. However, standard stress, conformance, load, and interoperability testing are not just enough to ensure good software. This discussion speaks to an innovative and critical testing technology that uncovers these flaws. The presentation begins with an overview of security testing methodologies and then concentrates to robustness test tools. Strengths and weaknesses of the test methodologies are described. We examine in more details some particular characteristics we find useful and some that needs more attention. We also give an insight into how Cisco plans to use Codenomicon test tools internally.
