Bicoastal Programs

Master of Science in Software Engineering

Offered on a full-time or part-time basis, the MS in Software Engineering (MS SE) program at Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley is designed for technical professionals interested in working as software engineers, developers, technical project leads, and software development managers. The program features both a Technical track and a Development Management track. The MS SE program emphasizes key skills in requirements analysis, architectural design, and construction that are needed in successful software product development. Within both tracks, you will learn how to align software engineering decisions with your company's business goals and to develop the communication, teamwork, and negotiation skills needed to be an effective technical leader. The part-time program take 2 years to complete; the full-time program takes 12 months to complete.

Master of Science in Software Management

The Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley career-accelerating software management master.s program prepares experienced software engineers and project managers for leadership roles in software business management. The MS in Software Management (MS SM) program is designed for engineers interested in becoming program managers, product managers, directors of software development, and senior-level executives. This two-year, part-time program.s first-year courses are focused on process, project, and people management, while second-year courses emphasize the processes for taking a software product or service from an initial concept through detailed requirements analysis, market and competitive analysis, technical feasibility studies, and the development of a successful business model. Effective business communication is a key success factor in any management position and is incorporated throughout the software management curriculum through written reports and oral presentations as major deliverables in all classes.
