(SV-SPIN)
ISO 9001: 2000 - Taking the Next Step
Robert Bamford and William J. Deibler
bamf@ssqc.com and deibs@ssqc.com
This presentation will focus on
how organizations, both software and systems, can successfully transition
to the new ISO 9001:2000.
The first Committee Draft (CD) of the new ISO 9001:2000
was circulated in 1998. The second Committee Draft, released in
March 1999, carried forward the significant changes introduced in
the first draft. The Draft International Standard (DIS) was approved
for release in September of 1999. The Final Draft International
Standard (FDIS), to be available in September 2000, will be followed
by the release of the revised International Standard in November,
2000.
This presentation will summarize the most current
draft, with commentary and observations on the relationship of the
revised standard to ISO 9001:1994.
The presentation will cut through the growing cloud
of dire predictions to identify potential challenges to registered
organizations and to explore transition strategies that minimize
rework and maximize benefits for companies upgrading to the new
standard.
Major topics include:
* The goals of the revision
* The new set of standards
* Review of the changes to ISO 9001
* Transition strategies
* Registrars, registration and their positions on transitioning
to the new standard
The presentation, intended for individuals familiar
with ISO 9001:1994, will also be of benefit to those seeking a preview
of ISO 9001: 2000.
